Premier Oak Carpentry is a family-run business, based in the Staffordshire countryside, bringing you beautiful oak frames and oak products. We are inspired by the beautiful surrounding countryside – from Cannock Chase and Cheshire to the North, Shropshire to the West and Derbyshire’s Peak District to the North East. Although the different areas host a variety of building styles, a traditional oak-porch or oak framed garage blends perfectly and enhances the kerb-appeal of many homes.

Oak framing is a traditional and highly skilled craft that involves constructing buildings using large, heavy oak timbers joined together with traditional joinery techniques, rather than modern methods like nails or screws. This craft has a rich history dating back centuries and is still practiced today by craftsmen who value oak for its durability, beauty, and timeless appeal.

The process of oak framing begins with selecting the finest quality oak timbers, often sourced from sustainably managed forests. These timbers are carefully inspected to ensure they are free from defects and suitable for use in construction. Oak is favoured for its strength, longevity, and resistance to rot, making it ideal for structural elements in buildings.

Once the timbers are selected, the joinery work begins. Traditional joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints and scarf joints are used to connect the timbers together. These joints are meticulously crafted by hand, requiring precision and skill to ensure a tight fit and strong connection.

Our senior carpenter, Rob, has worked as a joiner and carpenter for over 35 years. He has a love of oak and particularly enjoys designing and creating bespoke oak projects. His many years of experience are invaluable when it comes to assessing the right size oak porch to suit your property, or the best size oak beams to use for your oak framed gazebo.

Harry joined as an apprentice in 2017 and after qualifying as a joiner, blossomed into a key member of team and takes the lead of a large proportion of projects
